Town Krk, the largest settlement on the island of the same name, is located on the southwest coast of the island. Good transport connections have contributed to the rapid development of the town of Krk and transformed it into one of the leading tourist centres in the bay of Kvarner. The island is very well connected in terms of transport with a bridge to the mainland, numerous ferry lines to neighbouring islands and with the rest of the world by regular and charter flights via Rijeka Airport that is located on Krk near Omišalj. The town’s rich history is inscribed in the remains of Roman buildings, on the facades of Gothic and Renaissance churches and monasteries and the town walls that have been protecting its treasures located within them for centuries. Visit Kamplin, the remains of a Roman training ground, admire the temple of Venus, the tower on the coast built for Count Nikola Frankopan in 1407 and take a look at the numerous churches, such as the Church of St. Quirinus with a valuable sacral collection, the 11th- century Church of the Holy Mary of Health, the Church of St. Francis, the Church of St. Joseph, St. Donatus and St. Chrysogonus. Visit the beautiful cathedral and the Franciscan monastery and head to the islet of Košljun, where monks have been collecting and preserving many valuable objects for centuries, which are on display today in the ethnographic and sacral museum.
