Vela Luka, Insel Korčula

Vela Luka is located in a deep protected bay on the west coast of the island of Korčula. It is well connected by ferries with town Hvar, Split, the island of Lastovo and Dubrovnik. Vela Luka is a place of fishermen, farmers, poets and artists, who have turned their love for their homeland into songs and works that touches many. Many famous Croatian musicians came from this small Dalmatian town, among which the most famous is certainly Oliver Dragojević. His songs reflect and described wonderfully the essence of Dalmatian existence, the beauty of the Adriatic Sea and the spirit of every fisherman and farmer from this area. His opus is a story about the sea, love and Dalmatia. Numerous famous a capella groups in Vela Luka nurture the traditional singing without instruments, so you will often come across spontaneously gathered locals on a bench by the sea or on a square, who will delight you with such singing.

In addition to Dalmatian songs, Vela Luka and its cultural and artistic society nurtures and preserves the old Vela Luka dances " Četiri pasa" and "Tanac", as well as the knight game "Kumpanija", which are often performed in the summer. In the immediate vicinity of Vela Luka is the Neolithic site of Vela Spilja, which is especially worth seeing. Valuable exhibits are kept today in the baroque summer house Kaštel. Do not miss to enjoy a rich table of fresh fish seasoned with homemade olive oil, taste the island's desserts hrstule, pršurate and say cheers with premium wine Pošip. You should also not miss a visit to the nearby island of Ošjak and the pristine white beaches of Proizd.
