Tkon, island Pašman

Tkon, the largest settlement on the island of Pašman, is connected to the mainland by a ferry line to Biograd na Moru. Typical examples of traditional Dalmatian architecture with densely built stone houses can be seen in the areas called Palestra and Rudića dvori. Today, the coast is lined with modern houses and apartments where you can find comfortable and quality accommodation for your dream vacation. In past times, the village center was the so-called koledište, i.e. the place where the village’s well and large cistern were located. The history and way of life of this area are best reflected in the sacral monuments, like the small Church of St. Anthony the Hermit from the 17th century, the parish Church of St. Thomas the Apostle and the picturesque Benedictine monastery of St. Cosmas and Damian on the hill Ćokovac. The monastery is a zero-category cultural monument and the last active Benedictine monastery in Croatia. It is also known as the center of the early Croatian Glagolitic alphabet. The monastery houses a valuable Gothic crucifix from the beginning of the 15th century, which is the work of master Meneghello di Giovanni de Canali. We recommend hiking to the Byzantine fortress Pustograd from the 6th century above the bay Zaklopica, which was built as a defensive structure against pirate attacks. You can reach this archeological site by following the marked cycling and hiking trail that starts southeast of Tkon’s center. A well-maintained path leads from Tkon to Ugrinić Dvor, where you can see the remains of a 16th-century stone fortress or enjoy a walk to the Straža lookout on the hill above Tkon that offers an exceptional panoramic view.

The beautiful beaches of Tkon are the best invitation to laze in the sun. Vruljica beach is located in the village’s center, while beach Poljane is very popular among young people, who enjoy the beach parties there. Nudists will find their piece of paradise at the sandy beach Sovinje. Bartovica beach is intended for pets. Every year in March, Tkon is host to the famous international trekking race called Škraping, which goes over sharp island rocks and is considered an extreme sport. If you find yourself in Tkon in July, don't miss the regatta "Đir po konalu". The fisherman festival guarantees a good time and plenty of fun, during which guests can enjoy live music and a rich gastronomic offer. A unique souvenir from Tkon to take home is the hand-knitted basket "sprta". The art of making these baskets has traditionally been passed down from generation to generation since ancient times.
