Novigrad, Zadar Riviera

In a picturesque bay and not far from Zadar and Šibenik lies Novigrad. Novigrad owes its name to the famous Roman fortress Castrum Novum, which proudly watches over the place. The fortress was built on the site of a former Illyrian hillfort from 2000 BC, and had been almost unconquerable throughout its history. Novigrad’s rich history is not only testified by its fortress, but also by many churches like the beautiful Church of St. Catherine, the early Christian Church of St. Michael, the Church of St. Martin and other sacral monuments. Today, Novigrad is a famous tourist destination, where you can find comfortable and top class accommodation in apartments, villas and holiday homes. Novigrad and its magical bay, which is naturally hidden from urban crowds but still not too remote or secluded, is an ideal vacation spot where you can stop time, create moments to remember and enjoy a peaceful family vacation. At the same time, the proximity of Zadar, Šibenik, Biograd na Moru, the national parks Krka, Kornati, Plitvice Lakes, Paklenica, Northern Velebit make Novigrad an ideal starting point for discovering all the natural beauties of this part of Croatia. Excursions to the nearby canyon of the beautiful river Zrmanja should also not be missed. Round off your Novigrad experience with the gastronomic specialty of this region - mussels a la “buzara” and do not miss the Novigrad Mussel Festival, when experienced fishermen prepare this delicacy according to traditional recipes that are characteristic for this region.
