Paklenica National Park

Paklenica National Park

Paklenica National Park, Starigrad, Zadar Region

Because of its high, vertical cliffs, Paklenica for a long time already has been a popular place for mountaineers, who come here from different parts of Europe and from all over the world. The park includes the most beautiful spaces in the southern part of Velebit, the biggest Croatian mountain range with the highest peaks. Nature has endowed it with two impressive ravines, Big and Small Paklenica, which are truncated in the mountain like two deep ribs and cross it from the sea all the way to the very summit. Although this is a space of wild and preserved nature, Paklenica is easily reached because of its proximity to the Adriatic tourist routes and the town of Zadar. The park is extremely beautiful in the spring when nature starts to wake up, and it is said that the river bed is still filled with water which comes from the mountain heights. The turquoise colour of the river, waterfalls and a large number of karst phenomena spice up your stay in the park, in contrast to the summer months, when the summer's scorching heat dries up the riverbed and so defeats its playful water rapids and their palette of colours.
