Plitvice Lakes National Park

The flow of the river Korana adorns one of the most beautiful landscapes in Croatia and there is located the Plitvice Lakes National Park. The space is surrounded by forest of beech, pine and fir trees and in some parts is reminiscent of a primaeval forest (rainforest). However just as its name suggests, travellers in search of a holiday in nature are most attracted to its 16 gentle lakes which are interconnected by charming waterfalls created by tufa (limestone) sediment. For lovers of caving here are a few caves, and that nature really preserves its wilderness will be confirmed to you by the preserved diversity of its animal world. Deep in the forest still live brown bears who sometimes wander among the flowery meadows. It is hard to say whether the park is more beautiful in the spring when its meadows are in bloom or in the autumn when the patchwork of colours are reflected in its lakes mirrors or in the serene winter months when the waterfalls become rigid with ice and the surrounding landscape is covered with snow. Whenever you arrive in this protected world, you will certainly not be sorry and when you are tired of walking, here are scenic trains and old electric boats which will gladly carry you and shorten your journey.
