Kraljevica

Kraljevica is a small coastal town located at the entrance to the Bakar Bay, which was once well-known for its shipbuilding tradition and tuna fishing. Nowadays, it is a tourist resort that offers modern and comfortable accommodation in apartments, hotels and holiday homes. The town is dominated by two medieval fortifications with a church that were built in the 17th century by the famous Croatian nobles Ban Petar Zrinski and Count Fran Krsto Frankopan. Today, these castles provide the most beautiful stage for numerous cultural and entertainment events. Villa Nirvana from the 19th century, now a rehabilitation centre, proudly stands at the very entrance to the Bakar Bay. Due to the particularly favourable climate, Kraljevica was recognized as a health resort already in ancient times. The area around Kraljevica offers a wide range of opportunities for an active holiday such as educational trails in the hinterland of the nearby town of Bakar, hiking tours through the National Park Risnjak and Nature Park Učka, many water sports in the town itself or on the nearby island of Krk.

Only 2 km from Kraljevica is the Oštro peninsula with its beautiful pebble beach that attracts beachgoers with numerous well-equipped facilities on the beach. Especially the youngest ones will enjoy trampolines, jet skis and a children’s playground. The nearby picturesque bays of Carevo, Grabova and Črišnjeva are quiet places away from the bustle and perfect for a relaxing day on the beach with its crystal clear sea. Kraljevica is a place of fishermen, so do not miss to visit the famous Bakar’s tuners, which are today protected as immovable cultural property and an ethnological monument. Tuners are lookouts with ladders that were erected in the past for tuna fishing. Even today, Kraljevica's table is rich in seafood: fish, shellfish, squid and shrimp from the Kvarner Bay. The refreshing white wine Žlahtina, which is served in almost all taverns and restaurants in Kraljevica, perfectly complements the fish specialties.
