Just 6 km from Stari Grad is the village of Dol. It is an interesting place because it consists of two parts, the west section called St. Mary’s Dol and the east section called St. Ana’s Dol. In St. Mary’s Dol within St. Mary’s church there is only one altar, the work of famous Croatian sculptor Ivan Rendić (1849 - 1932) with a picture of Madona made by an anonymous Tuscan artist from the 15th century. In St Ana’s Dol, the church of St. Ana (previously being dedicated to St. Barbara) is mentioned as far back as 1226. When visiting Dol you will surely enjoy touring the old stone houses and courtyards which tell the story of a past time and the life of Hvar farmers.
