Primošten, Dalmazia

One of the most scenic places on the Adriatic is Primošten. Its old town developed on a small island that was connected to the mainland by a small bridge in the 14th century. The islet itself is surrounded by walls and towers. All streets and alleys in the old part of Primošten lead up towards the parish Church of St. George, which was built in the 15th century at the very top of the island. From the bridge, which connects Primošten’s oldest quarter with the mainland, stretch endless white pebble beaches that are lapped by the sea of turquoise blue colors. The beautiful beaches of Velika and Mala Raduča located on the peninsula north of the town offer their visitors, in addition to the sun and sea, the opportunity to try a variety of water sports and even diving under the expert guidance of local diving clubs. The nearby island of Smokvica attracts with its beautiful naturist beaches.

Marina Kremik is a modern and well-equipped marina located in Primošten, making it a popular destination for many boaters sailing along the Adriatic. Today, Primošten is truly a tourist gem on the Croatian coast where accommodation is available in apartments, holiday homes, luxury villas and villas with swimming pools. Another highlight of Primošten is its irresistible gastronomic offer that focusses on fresh fish specialties, homemade olive oils and premium homemade wines. We recommend trying the lobster à la Primošten along with a glass of the famous red wine Babić. By walking through Primošten’s hinterland, you will discover vineyards, where the autochthonous grape variety seems to almost grow in stone. Namely, Primošten’s famous vineyards are arranged on small terraces and surrounded by dry stone walls that hardworking farmers built to secure as much fertile land as possible. It is on this meager land that the grapes grow of which these premium wines are made. Those interested in learning more about Primošten’s wines and vineyards can join organized wine tours and discover the secrets of winemaking.

There are also several villages in the hinterland of Primošten worth visiting, as you can find here small family run farms that offer accommodation and the possibility to try fantastic homemade food such as prosciutto, cheese, lamb, dishes prepared under the lid, chickpeas, lentils and 100% homemade olive oil, along with various other traditional dishes from this area. Primošten is an excellent starting point for trips and visits to the beautiful Krka National Park, the nearby cities of Trogir, Split, Šibenik and Zadar, or for day-trips to the Kornati National Park, island Krapanj and its sponge museum and island Zlarin that is famous for its unusual story about corals.
