The uninhabited island Plavnik lies anchored in the waters not far from the town Krk. It particularly attracts curious tourists, who are in search of magical and unspoilt nature. The island is inhabited by various species of birds, rabbits, sheep and herds of fallow deer, and is also the home of the griffon vulture, a rare and protected bird. Plavnik’s underwater world is equally interesting with its flora and fauna and for the fact that its waters hide one of the most attractive diving sites in the Kvarner bay. In front of island Plavnik is a sunken sailing ship from the Napoleonic era, the popular Indian rock and numerous underwater caves. Not far from the bay of Krušija is the Blue Cave, which you can enter by swimming into it and where the magical shades of blue will enchant you. Islet Mali Plavnik, situated right next to Plavnik, is known for its underwater reef with caves and steep cliffs that provide habitats for numerous fish, snails and starfish. The many interesting diving sites can be visited only under the guidance of experienced divers.
